Industrial warehouse, the new fashion of construction

Throughout history, the human being has had different needs, some of them are within the industrial and commercial sector, implanting them as fashion, so they have put their hands to work to create spaces, artifacts, among others, that can solve those deficiencies and make life easier and lighter.

In this article you will be able to discover what are the antecedents that were taken for the human being to develop in an industrialized society, and how all this led to the need to generate an infrastructure that would provide agility to the processes, in order to be more productive, always with the vision of viability.

Currently, we can see one of these creations present in the industrial sector, with the creation of the famous industrial buildings, it is very likely that you have already heard about them, but do you really know what they are, how they are built and composed?

These buildings have been used since the 17th and 19th centuries, at the time of the Industrial Revolution, this because the economy was based on artisan work, so there were buildings where they carried out these works.

These buildings became multifunctional spaces, in ancient times they were built in a rustic way, they had different purposes, such as: warehouse of merchandise and food, for production and manufacturing, likewise they would be used as distribution centers.

Today industrial warehouses are built with modern techniques, one of them is the use of Tilt-up walls, which require to be placed by specialized and trained personnel.

Do you know the structural elements in an industrial warehouse?

To carry out this type of construction it is necessary to know each one of its structural elements that puts it on its feet, the warehouses are made by a great team of specialists, at Global Engineering Group (GEG) we have each one of them, architects, engineers and workers specialized in civil works.

To the above is also added the Safety, Hygiene and Environment team, as well as the Sustainability team, and of course the budgeting, purchasing and administration team, all of them are the personnel involved in the construction of an industrial warehouse, each one of them in different stages.

As for its physical elements of the structure, below, we will explain its function:

  • Structural framework: They are the main structure of these buildings, their material can vary, as we saw in our article “Do you know what the skeleton of an industrial warehouse is?”, they can be made of metal, concrete or mixed (metal and concrete).
  • Lateral enclosure: This will be what covers the entire building, they are important since it will be what protects the areas that will probably be used for automated production areas, such as robots or machinery, this is part of industrial security.

This process must be carried out as quickly as possible, because in this type of construction, the longer it takes, the costs will increase. For this reason, Tilt-up wall prefabrication techniques are currently used, one of those used by GEG.

Another option is the erection of walls with bricks or blocks, a method less used for industrial construction, but used for departments within the warehouse, such as offices or rooms, among other spaces requested by the tenant.

Sandwich panel, plates generally made of glass wool or rock wool and metallic coating can also be used; and the metal enclosure, which consists of aluminum metal plates, are regularly used to delimit the area inside the warehouse, although its resistance is somewhat compromised.

  • Roof purlins: elements, usually metallic, for the longitudinal connection between lintels. Its main objective is to support the cover, preventing it from collapsing or hitting critical arrows.
  • Cover: It is an element part of the enclosure of the industrial warehouse, its generic functions are to protect and isolate. And it must have the following properties:
  1. It must be totally closed.
  2. It must have slopes to evacuate the water.
  3. Made of waterproof materials.
  4. Resistance to its own weight, use overloads, snow overload and wind resistance.
  5. Durability against atmospheric actions.
  6. Insulation against temperature and noise.
  • Braces: Their objective is to ensure the bracing of the ship when it is subjected to loads, it provides stability, they are placed in the boxes of the frame formed by the steel bars.
  • Uniones: Se encargan del adecuado ensamblaje de las partes metálicas de la estructura, y solo tiene dos opciones, la primera es por elementos atornillados o por soldadura. Actualmente, se realizan investigaciones para uniones adhesivas.
  • Footings: This consists of a concrete prism, located under the pillars of the structure, its function is to transmit to the ground the stresses to which the rest of the structure is subjected and to anchor it, in case of not using footings it is necessary to resort to concrete foundations. piling or foundation.

As we have already seen, these buildings have a wide variety of elements that make them up and that to apply each of them it is necessary to have specialized and professional personnel so that it is carried out with safety and quality.

These buildings have the advantage of being customized and equipped according to the needs and the type of production that is made inside.

Nowadays, industrial warehouses are booming, to the point that there is a high hasty demand to meet clients who have decided to establish their companies in high-productivity cities, such as Ciudad Juárez, Tijuana, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Mexico City and Queretaro.

This has been thanks to the new trend of nearshoring, which aims to provide the industrial sector with strategic locations for the production and distribution of the goods they make.

In conclusion we can tell our reader that these buildings, which already had an impact function before, today have become great monsters that provide a large number of advantages to the economy of the places where they are located.

For this reason, GEG has given itself the task of providing not only quality services, but, since industrial buildings are part of social development, it has also presented a vision of sustainability, in order to respect the environment and the users of these buildings.
